Empathy
You readily identify with other people’s situations and can see things clearly from their perspective
Definition:
Empathy encompasses feeling another person's pain even if you have not experienced their situation.
Scripture:
God gives us a heart to have a passion/suffering spirit for others that is the result of loving those around us like we love ourselves.
Matthew 22:37-40 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind." 38 This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.
Key Takeaways:
- As Christians, we are to be imitators of God and have compassion for one another
- Try putting yourself in someone else’s shoes
- From Scripture we see the great empathy Jesus showed for the sick, the blind, the deaf, and more
- Throughout Scripture we are taught to humble ourselves and look at the interests of others
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to be companionate in our Christian walk and willing to love our neighbors as ourselves. Give us the wisdom to be imitators of your spirit and willing to bear the burdens of our fellow man whom we come in contact. Finally help us to be considerate of others in their time of need. In Jesus Name, Amen
